Heading into Slammiversary I was really disappointed with the overall hype for the show and thought that TNA had really dropped the ball with the show because it was really criminal that they have only really promoted 3 matches for the show and the majority of the card was shaped up just three days before the show.
But the show overall really delivered for TNA and I was very happy with the final results and the excitement of what direction the company is going to go heading towards Victory Road and then the Biggest PPV of the year, Bound for Glory.
The show kicked off with the X-Division King of the Mountain, before hand I had this down to really steel the show and it did with some fantastic moves, some insane spots (Lethal’s Elbow Drop onto the ladder) and overall it was a fast paced fun match which really showcased the X-Division and what it can deliver if given the time and opportunity.
Shane Douglas vs. Daniels was not bad but certainly not a classic, both guys worked hard and Douglas really did not look good after injuring his knee early on in the match. What direction are they going with this whole angle? Daniels for me is a wasted talent and has been for some time, but with the main event ending like it did I would not be surprised to see him thrown into the main event picture so I guess this is all over.
Knockouts Title match was next and I was really excited to see what both of these girls could deliver but for me personally I felt it was a little below par but the potential is most certainly there for a really good feud between these two. Tara has a real talent for elevating her opponent but continuing to look dominant and strong herself, for TNA she’s a fantastic addition to the roster and will take the division to the next level like Gail Kim did before she left. While I did not expect the title to change hands I most certainly can see Tara winning the gold before Bound for Glory or at the show itself.
Monsters Ball was it’s usual crazy with all 4 competitors working really hard and delivering some really good spots, none of then the Daffney thumbtacks spot summed her up in one, completely crazy! Raven for me looks in a lot better shape than when he left TNA and I’d be delighted for him to stick around because when given the time he’s worked wonders for TNA. The question I have to ask about this angle is what’s the payoff? Abyss for me has been apart of too many feuds, which have really gone on two long, and fans have lost interest in the angle. I’d really like to see an Abyss heel turn and join forces with Raven/Dr Stevie and for them to be thrown into the Tag Team picture.
Sting vs. Morgan for me is a feud, which I want to see Sting apart of for the next couple of months. While Morgan has all the talent in the world and can cut a solid promo he’s one victory away from cementing his place in TNA and in the World Title picture and having Sting help elevate him will really do nothing but help his career. The match itself was solid but the ending was really done badly and the match lost momentum after the blown spot, here’s hoping they continue this feud because it’s good some good potential and both guys seem to work well together.
3D vs. Beer Money was yet again another good tag team match, which you will only see in TNA. Both teams work so well together and Beer Money have most certainly brought the best out of 3D which has reborn them. I’m happy for Beer Money to take the titles and it’s really cemented their place as one of the best tag teams in TNA history. The British Invasion slowly are improving and 3D can get the best out of them, where does this lead Beer Money and could we be seeing a Triple Threat Tag Team Match? Tag Team Wrestling is alive and well in TNA!
The Main Event? Well reading some comments this morning the whole ending has not gone down well at all but for me personally I loved it and never saw it coming. The match itself was really good, with AJ Styles and Angle taking some crazy moves on the ladders which will no doubt have them sore for days. Scary moment during the match when Joe fell off the ladder and onto it! Luckily he was ok to continue, and help set up a really shocking ending.
While I can understand some people’s logic and opinion for me, I never saw it coming and really could not believe what I was seeing. Joe turning on the fans, his friends and the company to help (and join) the Main Event Mafia, what about the past between these two teams or was it all a way of giving Angle his power back in TNA? The whole angle has really stepped up and what are Sting’s opinions on all this after all he is the leader of the Main Event Mafia and was not present on the stage (or in the ring). Really impressed with the finish and cannot wait to hear the reasoning behind it all.
7 Years! A Company, which many believed, would not last 7 months nevermind 7 years. With the business being so weak, TNA has really done a wonderful job of offering us an alternative to the WWE. Yes they have their downsides but TNA is TNA and people are getting more and more into the product. Watch the replay and buy the DVD!
Happy Slammiversary TNA!
