Is this the Final Chapter for the Icon?

Author: Christopher Wood | Posted: October 14, 2009

icon-stingWith Bound for Glory fast approaching, could Sting’s be ready to write his final chapter in TNA?

The speculation for the past year is that this year Bound for Glory is the final road for the two-time Former TNA World Heavyweight Champion, but in a recent interview TNA president Dixie Carter confirmed that she’s done exactly the same as she has done for the past two years and tried to convince him to stay on another year, but this time has it worked?

Over the past couple of months the wording has changed regarding Bound for Glory and Sting’s match
, originally there was no doubt that Sunday’s pay-per-view was indeed to be Sting’s final farewell but I’m now convinced that he’s going to stay on until next year and have a farewell tour where it’d allow him to say his goodbye’s to his loyal fans in North America and all over the world.

What’s interesting is that TNA in 2010 will be touring both Australia and the UK within the first two months, it’d be a great coup if Sting could be apart of the shows wherever it’s wrestling or coming out in front of the fans and thanking them for the support they have given him throughout his career also it’d fit in nicely with the “Farewell Tour” that’s been rumoured.

But has Dixie Carter managed to convince him again? With Bound for Glory being the biggest show of the year, it’d be a little strange to take that “Historical” moment away from the show and put it on another pay-per-view which the company do not see as important unless it’s Slammiversary which is classed as a celebration pay-per-view. But at the time of writing it seems that Dixie has once again convinced him to stick around for a while but until Sunday we will not officially know wherever this is the case or not.

Battling AJ Styles this Sunday is the perfect match for Sting, AJ has a wonderful history of working with talent and getting the best of out them, wherever it’s Samoa Joe, Kurt Angle or Abyss, AJ Styles gets the best out of you and raises your game. I’ve always felt that TNA dropped the ball with Sting and AJ Styles, when he originally returned to TNA in January 2006 I felt the company should of have started a long feud between them and having AJ prove he can beat and compete with “The Icon” and having Sting prove he can still go with the best in the world after his long absence from Wrestling.

While many fans would love to see him have one match in the WWE allowing him to have a potential dream match against The Undertaker, Sting has ALWAYS been a man of his words and when he does leave wrestling it won’t be so that he can sign with the WWE. The only potential appearance he could have in the WWE is to be inducted into the Hall of Fame but even then I’ve always doubted him as to wherever he wants to be inducted and if so wherever he would appear due to his strong beliefs regarding WWE’s past storylines.

When you look back on Sting’s career there is so much to go through with some many wonderful moments with the very best the buisness has ever seen, Sting is right up there with the very best ever and when he does indeed retire he’ll be shown the respect he deserves and he’ll be sorely missed by all wrestling fans both young and old because he’s a true “Icon” of the buisness.

I guess we’ll see what the future holds this Sunday at Bound for Glory

Lacey Von Erich; The Story So-Far…

Author: Christopher Wood | Posted: October 13, 2009

Since the announcement that Lacey Von Erich was coming to TNA during No Surrender’s pay-per-view, Lacey has certainly been in the news for a number of wrong reasons, and certainly got off on the wrong foot in TNA Wrestling but hopefully now she can put those behind her and continue the Von Erich family tradition.

lacey-von-erichAfter a lacklustre debut on iMPACT where she made her debut by aligning herself with the Beautiful People of Velvet Sky and Madison Rayne, Lacey did herself no favours by criticising the person she replaced in the group and somebody who was well liked with the fans, Angelina Love. Unfortunately TNA Management did not take those comments well and demanded she offered an apology (which she did) but never less the comments were uncalled for especially just after signing with the company and it made filling the spot vacated by Angelina that much harder.

Unfortunately we live in a time where people would rather discuss bad press than good press, especially in the wrestling business where once bad news is out people talk about nothing but it. Nerveless we’ve moved on from that but there are new reports today where Lacey got in another altercation with Awesome Kong, personally I think that news got blown out of proportion because of who it was and journalists wanting to create a story in a dull weekend (Until this Sunday) but nerveless the rumours are out there and we wrestling read nothing but bad news.

Lacey’s had some experience in the ring when she was under a WWE Development Contract where she was assigned to Florida Championship Wrestling, from what I’ve read she only had one match where she was beaten by Nattie Neidhart and then let go so unfortunately the jury is still out regarding her in ring but the WWE have released a number of talented women before they were given the opportunity, but TNA will give her that chance and she’s still only 23 so there’s plenty of time to improve her in the ring aswell as creating her character if she’s sensible in what she says and does out of the ring.

This Thursday we’ll get the opportunity to see Lacey in action, although she did injure herself in the match so it’ll be interesting to see how much of her we’ll get to see but hopefully now we can move forward with Lacey and look towards the potential that she has. She’s most certainly not the only person in the business to get off on the wrong foot but if she learns from her mistakes and improves she’ll be a big success in TNA!

TNA Moving to Virgin 1 in the UK, Good or Bad?

Author: Christopher Wood | Posted: October 6, 2009

It’s been a long time since i’ve blogged on the site, unfortunatly it’s been due to the sheer amount of work and lack of time but hopefully things will smooth over in the next couple of weeks and allow me to contrubute more thoughts and feelings in regards to the website and of course TNA Wrestling.

As reported yesterday, it seems as thought TNA could be getting a new home in the United Kingdom with them leaving Bravo and joining Virgin 1 (which owns Bravo anyway). While at the moment the details are a little sketchy it seems as though 2010 is going to be a year of change for the Bravo Network and iMPACT does not fit into the new channel format. While many of you are concerned regarding the long term future for TNA, moving to Virgin is yet another stepping stone for TNA due to the sheer amount of people unable to watch Bravo at this moment in time while moving to Virgin will open the path to potentially more people watching the show.

tnaonvirginVirgin 1 is currently available on Sky, Virgin Media and most recently Freeview, the latter being very important as Freeview is a free to air digital service which would mean over 18 million viewers potentially could watch TNA every week for FREE, while at the moment under Bravo you would have to subscribe to Sky or Virgin Media. Also Virgin get consistantly more viewers for there better shows because of this, for example week ending September 20th in the UK Bravo had 1 show over 100,000 viewers while Virgin’s main show Chuck gathered over 235,000 viewers and had 9 other shows which had atleast 154,000 viewers or more. TNA would really struggle to compete with the strong showing Virgin has but they could gather more viewers on the back of the stronger shows.

As noted details at the moment regarding wherever it’s going to happen, and the timeslot are sketchy. All we know is that a TV Guide Website are reporting that TNA will debut in a 90 minute timeslot (less than what they get on Bravo) on a Friday Night starting October 30th which would indicate that they are looking to smooth the move over rather than jumping the gun straight away (As noted Bravo in 2010 are changing there channel format).

Another Key Question is what will happen to the Pay Per View showing? Right now there’s a 3 day delay to showing PPV’s but with iMPACT potentially being shown earlier than currently, could we be going live in the United Kingdom? It’d be a Fantastic Move in order to show TNA Pay Per View’s live in the UK, and would most certainly bring in extra viewers as right now the majority of fans watch the shows over the Internet or Download them Monday Mornings and for somebody like myself it’d allow me in order to get friends round and encourage them to watch TNA shows more, but moving to live i feel is very unlikely at this point in time but if TNA gets the spike in new viewers and if us fans get behind and demand the shows to the shown live, there could be movement.

So overall, if it happens is it a good move? I’ve no doubts that moving is potentially what TNA needs in order to dominate the UK market, with 4 times more potential exposure it would allow more people more access to TNA and with stronger ratings on Virgin 1 if Virgin advertise TNA during the stronger shows, they could really help TNA.

Who To Watch In 2010: My Take

Author: HistoryofTNA | Posted: September 10, 2009

I thought I would make a post about who I thought would be major stars heading into and in 2010. Now, I’m not saying these are the only people to watch in the weeks and months to come heading into 2010. But, these are the ones I feel have the best chance of making something out of it sooner than others. I tried to do no more than four per division which was hard to do especially for the heavyweights with people like Hernandez running around. But, as we head into 2010… I don’t think TNA will have any talent shortage.

“The Phenomenal” AJ Styles:  Now, anyone who’s watched any of TNA in the past seven years will know that the Phenomenal One is no stranger to world championship gold but it’s been four long years since AJ last held the world title in TNA. I see AJ making a major break through in getting the world title by the end of 2010. TNA has been making AJ look like the star he is (new entrance music, huge entrance, etc) and it’s only a matter of time until the first Triple Crown Winner and ONLY grand slam winner becomes the world champion once again.

“The Blue Print” Matt Morgan: Matt Morgan has been in TNA for two years now and has went from Jim Cornette’s “body guard” to a main eventing, ass kicking machine with build up! TNA didn’t just throw him onto television and give him a silly gimmick; they build up him time and time again. Morgan’s been trying to get into the Mafia as of late, but it appears that Angle’s playing some mind games with him… and Morgan has started to return the favor. I can see Morgan getting his name etched into the history books and listed with guys like Kurt Angle, Samoa Joe, & Sting by June 2010. Who knows, Morgan could win King of the Mountain next year. We’ll see.

James Storm: Now, for Storm to become a main event star, we’ll have to see the end of something I never want to see end: Beer Money Inc. But, Storm has everything he needs to be a top guy with wrestling ability, microphone skills, an already big fan base and entertainment value. I’m not saying James Storm would get a run with the world title next year but I see Beer Money parting ways later this year or early next year and starting his baby face singles run.

Robert Roode: The same I just said for Storm is true for Roode besides I think Roode would be a mega-heel that you just loved to hate. I thought TNA was going to be able to go somewhere with Roode back in 2007 after he beat Jeff Jarrett but he went from beating Jeff Jarrett to beating up on women which just left a sour taste in my mouth. I could see Roode & Storm feuding for a few months and tearing the house down with the talent they both have and eventually main event a PPV with the world title on the line.

X-Division:

Consequences Creed – I’ve been a fan of Creed’s since his days on the indie scene here in Georgia but I feel that if Creed and Lethal went their separate ways but left the door open for a future tag match then he could be a break out star in the X-Division. Creed has had his shots at X-Division gold but just never seemed to be able to get it. Creed’s fan base has grown since his first year in TNA and is on his way to being a top X-Division guy.

Eric Young – Eric has always been the guy in Team Canada that really didn’t get put out there and shown what he had. He’s also been the guy that made us laugh (sometimes until we cried) but he’s never gotten a fair shake. Young’s taken this and has used it to his advantage with a new look and attitude. There are no more jokes, turkey suits or “Don’t Fire Eric” anymore. Young is on his way to the top of the X-Division if he keeps this up.

D’Angelo Dinero – I think that D’Angelo Dinero has everything to make it to the top of the X-Division. He made his debut in a very impressive match at Hard Justice in the Steel Asylum and followed that up with a win over Consequences Creed. He’s got his sights set on Suicide (Maybe he knows who Suicide is? Hmm) but if he sets his sights on the X-Division Title there’s no telling how quickly he can reach the top of the X-Division and become champion.

Amazing Red – Amazing Red is one of those talents that just takes your breathe away and was even more impressive in the Steel Asylum at Hard Justice. Red has all the talent in the world to be a major player in the X-Division he just needs a chance to prove he has what it takes to be within the elite of the X-Division

Tag Teams

The British Invasion:  The British Invasion (Doug Williams & Brutus Magnus) are two guys that know how to get the job down in the ring weather it’s cheating or not, it doesn’t matter. They’ve already captured the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Teams from Team 3D and I think it’s only a matter of time before the Brits wind up as TNA World Tag Team champions as much as I hate to admit it.

The Motor City Machine Guns: Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin have both proved their great singles stars and they’ve proved they’re a great tag team but they haven’t etched their names in history yet in TNA. They’ve held the Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Titles from NJPW but are yet to get the big win in TNA which is the TNA World Tag Team Titles. I think if Shelley & Sabin keep doing what they’re doing they’ll be holding TNA Tag Gold in no time, if one of their egos don’t get to them kill off a good thing like the team they get compared to (aka The Rockers).

Lethal Consequences – If neither Jay Lethal nor Consequences Creed get a massive singles run in the X-Division, I would love to see these two stay together. It just makes sense to keep these two young guns together that both have a good fan base and loads of talent. Maybe if Jay Lethal drops the Black Machismo gimmick and goes back to being Jay Lethal himself – we’ll get to see an amazing team like these guys face the Motor City Machine Guns for tag team gold at Bound For Glory 2010.

Knockouts:

Madison Rayne: If you’ve seen Madison Rayne in independent companies like SHIMMER you’ll known Madison has yet to reach her pointeal. She’s finally looks to be finished with The Beautiful People for good so hopefully she can forget about Angelina Love & Velvet Sky and capture TNA Knockout Gold!

Alissa Flash: Alissa Flash is defiantly someone to watch in 2010 with her wrestling skill there’s no way she won’t reach the top of the Knockouts Division. She does have a lot of skilled girls in front of her like Tara, Taylor Wilde & Awesome Kong but Flash can hold her own and capture TNA Knockouts Gold in my honest opinion.

Sarita: To say she should be watched in 2010 is an understatement in my honest opinion. I feel that Sarita has everything she needs to be a top TNA Knockout. She’s the new kid on the block though so it might take her some time to get a Knockouts Title shot but if she keeps going strong like she has been these past several weeks – she’ll be fine.

This is just my opinion.
Matthew.

Dixie Carter Making the Right Moves regarding Less PPV's

Author: Christopher Wood | Posted: September 1, 2009

Since last month when Jeff Jarrett was removed from power in TNA many fans including myself have been concerned regarding the long term future for the company with only Dixie Carter at the helm but so far the TNA president has made the correct decisions and with her latest move already being planned, TNA could be looking to reduce the amount of monthly PPV’s to 6 per year.

PPVReducing the PPV’s is something I have been requesting for a number of months now, while TNA puts on 90% of the time strong PPV’s in the current climate the cost of producing a show is not beneficial for TNA Wrestling and Dixie Carter agrees. In a recent interview Dixie said, “I’m not a big fan of monthly PPV’s, quite honestly, but you have contracts that keep you held in and bound at times,” while nothing is set in stone, the sheer fact they are looking to reduce long term is better off the for the company.

Buyrates have been poor for a long time now, and the shows, which generally do well, are the big shows each year which have more meaning to them than the standard PPV. Also another disadvantage in the current schedules, are that on average 8 shows are held at Universal Studios, while the arena costing is a lot less than holding the shows elsewhere TNA does not generate any revenue from the LIVE crowd due to them being unable to charge fans.

Moving to a 6 shows per year is something which is the only way forward to the company, fans will feel a lot happier to know when they buy a show they are getting better value matches and cards which will have been announced for weeks and with better hype. Also another advantage is that TNA can look at putting each show on the road and generating extra money aswell as hoping to have better buyrates, the fact that a lot of shows will have double time to promote will mean they can hope to generate more fans inside the arena.

Another advantage is that TNA can use the time they would have normally putting on a PPV to add more live Events and testing the waters with crowds and how in demand TNA are in that area. TNA have recently put on more live Events than ever before and they are generating solid numbers and leaving fans wanting more, so far they are making slow yet solid progress and having more live events will certainly help the company in identifying which states are next in line for a PPV.

PPV’s aren’t they only shows to benefit, the fact that iMPACT will be a lot less rushed will help advertisement for the following shows. TNA can add matches and promote them a week in advanced more, this could help generate extra viewers and also with the specials coming soon, they could look at holding another LIVE iMPACT show on FREE TV and giving the fans something else. The fact that it will give them more time for character development will only help the roster and under the current format even though they are getting more time than ever before, the show still feels a little rushed and the roster looks over crowded.

At this moment in time it’s an idea Dixie Carter and TNA are looking into but the benefits are there to be seen, it really is a move TNA needs to make if they want better Buyrates, Ratings and overall potential for more company development.

Fantasy Booking: Bound for Glory 2009

Author: Christopher Wood | Posted: August 27, 2009

Bound for Glory is now less than 2 months away, and TNA have started to plant the seeds for the biggest TNA Pay Per View of the Year as they head towards the Bren Events Center at University of California at Irvine in Irvine, California.

For me personally when the very first Bound for Glory was officially announced after years of speculation i had to be apart of the show, and loved every minute of the show being inside the iMPACT Zone and finally having a chance to meet some of the TNA guys i had been watching for years. So with TNA’s 5 Annual Bound for Glory PPV on the horizon, here’s a run down of a number of 3 matches I would love to see:

The Two Icons Collide: AJ Styles vs Sting

stingajTNA this past week officially announced the poster for the show and after months of speculation regarding Sting’s future, it’s going to be an emotional night for the Stinger as he bows out of TNA Wrestling and what a better way to go out that fighting the “Icon” of TNA, AJ Styles.

AJ has done everything he possibly can in TNA, but his drive and determination is still there and he wants to take the company he built up to the top of the ladder, having a true AJ vs Sting would be the final match that a lot of us fans have wanted to see, and given the correct time and build up (Which started on Thursday) both of these guys would put on a classic for the TNA fans, the perfect way for Sting to go out.

The Two Hardcore Icons: Mick Foley vs Abyss

abyssfoleyMick Foley for me over the past 3/4 months has been fantastic for TNA, while when he signed i was lookign forward to what he could do inside the 6 sided ring he’s really suprised me because while his matches have not been really bad his promo skills have gone to another level and i’ve loved his work with Nash, Borash and Jarrett.

This past Thursday on iMPACT, Foley thanked Abyss for saving him at Hard Justice by giving him a gift, maybe Foley wants the bounty on Abyss’s head and with his connections with Dr Stevie, i’m hoping that Foley turns against the fans and goes after the money and more importantly Abyss.

The match has never been done before, and quiet frankly i’m suprised that TNA have held it off for so long (they rush into feuds far too quick) could we be seeing a Hardcore Masacre at Bound for Glory?

The World Title Match: Fatal Four Way?

For me the World Title Match should be something more than a predictable Main Event for Bound for Glory. Over the past couple of months Matt Morgan has shown he can hang with the best in the World Title Scene and I personally feel he deserves his shot at the gold.

TNA wants to go with the Bobby Lashley vs Kurt Angle match but having no previous matches in TNA, it does not seem a good move for him to debut in ring and automatically get a World Title Shot. So I would personally go with the Triple Threat Match until I forgot about Hernandez.

Hernandez has a title shot he can cash in any time, it would make perfect sense for him to do so at Bound for Glory and really stake his claim to become the next TNA World Heavyweight Champion. This could also set up a interesting feud with Morgan and how Morgan deserves his shot and he feels Hernandez is taking that away from him and interupting his time.

That way TNA can keep it’s Lashley vs Angle hype they have been doing since Lashley debuted, and allow the current storyline to continue and also build up the future stars in TNA. People will pay for Bound for Glory if they give them the time and something fresh, having the Four Way would certainly do so and would kick off the next year in TNA.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on Bound for Glory wherever it be the event in general, matches or anything else regarding TNA, drop us a tweet through Twitter

Kurt Angle, the man who's "Crossed the Line"

Author: Christopher Wood | Posted: August 16, 2009

Summer 2009 for TNA could very well go down as the worst in the company’s history and now things have gotten a whole lot worse as there World Heavyweight Champion, Kurt Angle yesterday was in more bother this time with the Police and had to be bailed out of jail in order to compete at tonights Hard Justice PPV.

Just what is going on at TNA and when will somebody at the top of the tree step in and put an end to all this madness that is holding the company back and preventing the stars of the future getting there oppertunity to shine.

Every time there is a TNA PPV around the corner the company has actual problems putting on the advertised matches, wherever it be for injury’s, or the fact that personal issues are preventing the company potentially going ahead with what they’ve booked. The past 2 Main Events have been “50/50″ due to injuries, back at Slammiversary there was talk Samoa Joe would not be able to compete due to a finger injury, Victory Road saw Kurt Angle have issues with his thigh and the show had to be changed in order to get him through the show and tonights show had issues again when Angle yesterday got in a spot of bother with the police.

While i’m a big fan of Kurt Angle and have been for years, the fact that right now it seems as though he’s carrying alot of problems wherever it be with his ex-wife and the fact he cannot work with Jeff Jarrrett anymore or where it be yesterday’s issues in which he was arrested for human growth possession and stalking his ex-girlfriend, Rhaka Khan. TNA has to suspend Angle and really sort his personal life out, they cannot continue to gloss over the fact that once again he’s got problems which badly need to be addressed in order to help him progress his life.

What frustrates me is TNA has a decidcated and loyal roster with guys who have worked with the company since it’s inception yet they are not rewarded and guys who bring nothing but bad press and cause backstage problems are, if TNA had any ambition and any respect for the fans they would remove him before they are left with the World Champion in jail and even more bad publicity.

Dear Dixie – The Solution to the Creative Team Issue

Author: Christopher Wood | Posted: August 4, 2009

deardixie The fallout from the Jeff Jarrett saga looks to continue for a while longer and this past Friday, TNA relieved two of Jeff Jarrett’s closest friends in Dutch Mantel and Savio Vega. Both Releases have alerted a number of Jarrett’s friends and they now wonder wherever they will be apart of the shakeup which TNA President Dixie Carter seems to be under going now that Jarrett seems to be out of the picture.

One man on every body’s lips is the always hated Vince Russo, who has been head booker for TNA for just over 2 years now and always first on the “Fire List” of both TNA and general wrestling fans. Since Russo’s appointment the ratings have nearly doubled in the 2 year period, but PPV buys are reported to be extremely low and considering how much money the company is paying on house hold names like Kurt Angle, Sting, Booker T and many others the fact that the buy rates are falling is something which needs to be addressed. Russo is another of Jarrett’s friends, and he could be next on the hit list.

The problem with removing Vince Russo from his position is that he’s top of the booking tree, TNA would need a replacement before he’s relieved of his duty’s which at this moment in time I’m not sure wherever that is the right decision for the company but never less things need a good shakeup creatively in TNA because really there buy rates should be allot better (even in a time of financial recession) and the money generated could allow the company to tour iMPACT and PPV’s more, not only that but better booking would once again create a buzz about TNA which they lost in 2006. 2009 Mid Year Report; Superstar, Match, Knockout of the Year and More

Author: Christopher Wood | Posted: August 4, 2009

2009 for TNA has so far been a very hit and miss year for the company, and seen as though we are half way through the year i think it’s time for the “Mid Season” Report in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. Here are the categories:

- Superstar of the 2009
- Knockout of the 2009
- Match of the 2009
- PPV of the Year (Might struggle on this one)
- Overated and Underated Talent of 2009
- Tag Team of 2009

The problem with TNA over the past couple of years is that it does not feel like TNA Wrestling anymore too much has changed regarding the company and the in ring PPV product is the worst out there in the American Market, buyrates are low because the amount of great matches that you normally see on a PPV are very low.

A Response To Jenna Morasca And Her "Blog"

Author: HistoryofTNA | Posted: July 23, 2009

I would like this to take this time and respond to TNA “wrestler”/”knockout” Jenna Morasca. Jenna posted a blog about her “wrestling match” at Victory Road today (Thursday) and there’s just some stuff I need to “vent” about in this blog.

First, you cannot judge my match against Sharmell like you would a pro such as Kong, Tara, etc.  The reason why- I am NOT a wrestler!

Actually Jenna, I CAN judge your match like a pro. Why? Because, you got a match on a pay-per-view. Not a pre-show match, but the actual PPV. You’re right, you’re not a wrestler and should have never been put on a wrestling pay-per-view. You can’t tell me nor anyone else not to judge you’re match as a pro-match due to the fact it was on a pay-per-view we all paid $29.95 to see.

“The match was not to debut my wrestling skills it was purely for entertainment, which I think it was. “

That was entertaining? Wow, you could have fooled me and the wrestling fans I’ve talked to including people who were at the show and everything is better in person than on TV. So, that says something.
