IMPACT Wrestling… I Kinda Like It

As many of you know, we here at TNARevolution were pretty skeptical when word first broke that TNA was looking to re-brand itself. It was my opinion that they had spent the better part of the last ten years building up the TNA brand, and to knock it down would feel like a step backwards. That being said, I kinda like how they went about it. Keeping the name IMPACT was crucial for them as it has been their identity for the past seven years now. I like the fact that they are focusing on the IMPACT name, but keeping TNA has the company name. It would be like WWE with RAW and Smackdown. IMPACT Wrestling is TNA’s brand, TNA is the company. I also love the fact that TNA has emphasized the word wrestling in this new branding. As much as Vince McMahon wants to call his company a sports entertainment company, it will always be a wrestling company first. IMPACT Wrestling is embracing that fact while WWE is trying as hard as they can to hide it. I applaud TNA for this move.

People out there may say that an all wrestling program could never work, and they may be right. Problem is that nobody since the 1980s has given it a true chance on a national outlet. IMPACT Wrestling has that national showcase to give it a try, and I think it will finally pay off. IMPACT Wrestling has needed to be an alternative to WWE for several years now, but they have been basically a knock off of WWE instead. Now is the time to truly become that alternative by focusing on the in-ring action instead of countless skits and ridiculous story lines. I am actually excited to see if they can pull it off.

iMPACT Wrestling: Pro-Wrestling Matters!

Pro-Wrestling fans need to unite, as pro-wrestling matters again. TNA Wrestling has rebranded their program as “iMPACT Wrestling”, where wrestling matters again. Excuse me, I need to go set the confetti cannon off and set off the pyrotechnics.

TNA History: A Small Problem

“Our plan was simple. We believed that there were 50,000 wrestling fans who would pay $10.00 per week or $40.00 per month to have an alternative to “sports entertainment”. This was based on the fact that WWE has from 300,000 to one million fans of “sports entertainment” who will pay $35.00 per month to see their product.” – Jerry Jarrett posting on the WrestlingClassics.com forum June 19, 2002.

TNA appeared to have everything going their way as they prepared for show number five, but something odd was announced on the day of the show. News hit the wire that TNA would be moving their weekly shows from the spacious Municipal Auditorium to the small Tennessee State Fair Grounds. The word given was that the Auditorium was booked on Wednesday nights in the coming months, but soon the real reason would come to light.

Lockdown Dream Teams

When you look back at some of the most violent and brutal matches in pro-wrestling, “Lethal Lockdown” really does take the cake. The match has produced some of the most bloodiest matches in TNA Wrestling since the match was first introduced. We have seen the match change from it’s first appearance at “Lockdown” in 2005, really an evolution. It went from a regular five-on-five steel cage match, to total “Lockdown” as a roof was added in 2006. There are great teams that have walked into the match, but there are still some “dream teams” out there. These are just a few of my friends and I dream teams.

HARDCORE TEAM
The “hardcore” team was put together by one of my mates and the team consist of Tommy Dreamer, Sabu, Abyss, and Team 3D. This team would tough to argue with in a match like “Lethal Lockdown”, just tthink of the matches between Abyss and Sabu, Abyss and Dreamer, then you add Team 3D! Wow, what can you say.

It’s More Than Personal: Jarrett vs. Angle

There have been many fans wanting pro-wrestling to feel more “real” than it has the past few years and there is not a situation that is more real than the rivalry between Jeff Jarrett and Kurt Angle. It’s been a big role in the career of Kurt Angle since he walked in the door in TNA Wrestling. Angle and Jarrett seemingly have never nor will ever see eye to eye which isn’t a good combination. But, the real turning point in this situation is when you factor in: Karen Jarrett, the former Mrs. Karen Angle. Yeah… it just got real… damn real.

A Potential Overhaul of TNA?

If you heard the words “TNA is thinking of re-branding,” what would you think? Would you be excited? Worried? Befuddled? Amused? Or would you laugh it off as another example of TNA giving up on something and trying to start over again? In the history of TNA, we have seen this occur over and over again. Something isn’t sticking or ratings are stagnant, so TNA decides it is time to start fresh. So when PWTorch reported on Monday that TNA is considering re-branding or taking a different approach to the company, I kinda just shrugged it off. But then I read on and saw something that made me feel the need to comment on it. So here Matthew and I are to give our opinions on this latest “rumor”.
