Who Needs Brand Recognition?!

The simple answer to that question is, TNA Wrestling. I, among others, have been under the impression that the change to “iMPACT Wrestling” was supposed to bring name/brand recognition to the company, yet hasn’t. This is a problem that TNA has struggled with since the inception of the company back in June of 2002. Why you may ask? It’s a pretty cut and dry answers, because everyone (media, companies, non-wrestling fans, etc) hear the words “pro-wrestling” or “pro-wrestler” and automatically think about World Wrestling Entertainment. It’s the same way when non-MMA fans hear “Mixed Martial Arts” or “MMA Fighter”, they think UFC. But, could this be just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to TNA?

IMPACT Wrestling… I Kinda Like It

As many of you know, we here at TNARevolution were pretty skeptical when word first broke that TNA was looking to re-brand itself. It was my opinion that they had spent the better part of the last ten years building up the TNA brand, and to knock it down would feel like a step backwards. That being said, I kinda like how they went about it. Keeping the name IMPACT was crucial for them as it has been their identity for the past seven years now. I like the fact that they are focusing on the IMPACT name, but keeping TNA has the company name. It would be like WWE with RAW and Smackdown. IMPACT Wrestling is TNA’s brand, TNA is the company. I also love the fact that TNA has emphasized the word wrestling in this new branding. As much as Vince McMahon wants to call his company a sports entertainment company, it will always be a wrestling company first. IMPACT Wrestling is embracing that fact while WWE is trying as hard as they can to hide it. I applaud TNA for this move.

People out there may say that an all wrestling program could never work, and they may be right. Problem is that nobody since the 1980s has given it a true chance on a national outlet. IMPACT Wrestling has that national showcase to give it a try, and I think it will finally pay off. IMPACT Wrestling has needed to be an alternative to WWE for several years now, but they have been basically a knock off of WWE instead. Now is the time to truly become that alternative by focusing on the in-ring action instead of countless skits and ridiculous story lines. I am actually excited to see if they can pull it off.

iMPACT Wrestling: Pro-Wrestling Matters!

Pro-Wrestling fans need to unite, as pro-wrestling matters again. TNA Wrestling has rebranded their program as “iMPACT Wrestling”, where wrestling matters again. Excuse me, I need to go set the confetti cannon off and set off the pyrotechnics.

It’s a night of surprises for TNA Wrestling as many questions are looking to get answers. Who is Kurt Angle’s mistress? Who will be Hardy’s partner for “Sacrifice”? Who is the network executive? Will we find out where Waldo is, too? Let’s find out…

Previously on TNA iMPACT…5/5/11

“The Network Is Coming” was the name of this episode and it was a night dedicated to hyping the revealation of the network. We had an X-Division Debut, an X-Division return, a Knockouts Title Match, and someone is out of Immortal. Let’s get to it..

Previously on TNA iMPACT…4/28/11

We’re only two weeks removed from TNA “Lockdown” as the entire TNA locker room prepares to make ultimate sacrifices heading into “Sacrifice” in just a few short weeks. Jeff Jarrett and Karen Jarrett have a lot on their mind with Angle’s mistress coming in, AJ Styles wants revenge on Bully Ray, Sting is in a title match, and of course… Mr. Anderson still wants his freaking title shot. This is… “Previously on TNA iMPACT” for April 28th, 2011.

Five IMPACTS From iMPACT!

Hello I’m back with my 5 impacts from Impact!

5. TNA World Title Match Sting vs. Matt Hardy

I know this is a title match but, I don’t see Matt as a believable challenger for the title. Now I am sure some will disagree with me and I’m not saying Matt isn’t a great talent, but I personally don’t think it came across as believable on TV.

Fatt Hardy, Huh? Lift Up Your Shirt For A Minute. . .

Once the senior Hardy Boy made his much-anticipated Total Nonstop Action Wrestling debut earlier this year, there were any number of Wrestling Internet Community (WIC) members who were more than happy to brand Matt as grossly out-of-shape. Some even got clever & called him Fatt Hardy. These obviously-svelte members of the WIC quickly found 1,000s of supporters to join suit, because as we all know, there’s always more room on any passing bandwagon.

TNA Needs A Dreamer

Tommy Dreamer may have left the WWE but he never said he retired. If you follow Tommy on Twitter you know how busy he really is. Tommy is still wrestling on the independent scene almost every weekend as his website (thetommydreamer.com) indicates. Tommy even has TNA Live appearances on his schedule but where is he on iMPACT!? Since the “EV.2″ storyline dried up Tommy has been used sparingly on TV and I have to ask why? Tommy Dreamer is the “Innovator of Violence” and a hardcore legend. Not to mention Tommy is probably one of the most compelling figures TNA has. Dreamer tells stories in the ring and fans can’t help it but to root for him.

Staff Picks: Against All Odds 2011

Beer Money Inc & Scott Steiner vs Rob Terry, Gunner & Murphy
Brian: Based solely on the teams, Beer Money and Steiner are leaps and bounds above Terry, Gunner and Murphy talent-wise and experience-wise, so for me it would be insane to pick against them.  Also, in order to advance the Fortune vs Immortal story you gotta go with team Fortune here.

Matt: I am going to have to go with Beer Money Inc & Scott Steiner, as it really does make the most sense in both talent and storyline. TNA would have a very unpredictable match here had they not turned two of the hottest acts in the south east independent scene into jokes. The gimmick [of being security] is fine and works but the lack of build is silly. Beer Money Inc & Scott Steiner have to win this match.
